This
is my favorite toy/swing to make. It is built on an
eight inch marabella plastic hoop, with a stainless steel
wire hanger. Even after all the trimmings have been
chewed off, you have a functional and "dishwasher-able" swing.
I take little pieces of four ply cotton rope,
separate them and then tie the pieces on (double knots) --
eh -- ONE piece at a time. Cotton toy parts must
be cut very short. Making these little gizmos
isn't my most cost effective pastime but I have earned
the undying gratitude of our Eclectus parents,
d'Artagnan and Constance. They love cotton rope.
Most toys have pieces that are way too long--too likely to
get wrapped around feet--or tied on too loosely, so
they come off in a New York minute. This is the solution
I've found for d'Ar and Connie. The only hitch is, it
takes a lonnng time to put these together. My
solution: I keep one in the car and work on it when I'm ridin'
shotgun and bored with the scenery. Marc
calls it my 12 cents an hour toy. $10
